SUPPORTERS DIRECT
As you may or not be aware Supporters Direct is the body that helps Scottish Football fans start up Supporters Trusts. Over the last two years the organisation has assisted over 50 groups of fans start their own Trust and allowed them to play a responsible role in the running of their football club. Now that we have funding for Scotland through the Scottish Executive we hope that we can provide a similar service with a similar success rate.
When all is said and done football is nothing without the fans and the same is true of Supporters' Trusts. The biggest strength any Trust can have is to have supporters giving their time and effort in order to assist their club become closer to the community it purports to represent. The Trust merely sets the ground rules by ensuring that no financial profit is made from the efforts of fans and that the community remains the main beneficiary.
Far from being a threat to the existence of clubs, the advent of a Trust could be the spark that brings a club back in touch with its roots.
